God Trusted Again?

washington coin A“In God We Trust” will return to the front of the $1 coin, thanks to pressure from the public. According to the U.S. Mint, the motto was moved to the edge of the coin to draw attention to the inscription — and it did. Some coinage made it through without being stamped with the motto. And experts say it could rub off over time. “It was a bad idea, followed by bad employment of that idea, and now finally they are correcting that mistake," said Brian Rooney, spokesman for the Thomas More Law Center. "That’s good news.” Sen. Sam Brownback, R-Kan., sponsored legislation to move “In God We Trust” back to its proper home. It's waiting for President Bush's signature. How did the motto come to appear on the coins? Click here to find out.

Design: Not a Dirty Word
Source: FRC, 1-7-08

darwin The National Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Medicine have mounted yet another attack on the scientific theory of intelligent design, publishing an 89-page book titled Science, Evolution, and Creationism. The new publication falsely equates "intelligent design" (a scientific theory which infers the necessity for intelligent design from scientific evidence) with "creationism" [a term usually used for a theory of origins that begins with the Bible or other religious text(s)]. It appears to dodge altogether the crucial question of how living things could have arisen from non-living things in the first place. It also slanders intelligent design as "unscientific" despite peer-reviewed articles on the concept and the credentials of 700 doctoral-level scientists who have publicly questioned Darwinism. Perhaps the biggest problem with the defenders of Darwinian evolution is that, ironically, they have reversed the roles in the supposed historical "war between science and religion," by declaring Darwinism to be inerrant dogma, and punishing its doubters by burning them at the academic stake.

Champions!

Champions! It is said that the "Four "Fs" describe Louisiana's culture: Food, Faith, Fish, and Football!  The LSU Tigers have once again tasted victory in last night's win over Ohio State, 38-24.
Athletic Journal Sporting News put it this way: "That's two BCS titles in the past five seasons for LSU. And the win makes the Tigers the first repeat BCS champion in the 10-year history of the format. When we look back, we may label LSU the team of this decade. Yeah, I think it can be argued LSU has been even more impressive than USC."
LFF congratulates Coach Les Miles and all our Fighting Tigers for a well deserved and undisputed national title.  Coach Miles' comments after the game crediting "divine intervention" are telling of the character of this team.  Geaux Tigers!

New Faces in House Leadership
Source: Times Picayune, 12-22-07

WitherspoonNew Orleans-area lawmakers will hold the top two spots in the state House of Representatives and six committee chairs when the new Legislature convenes in January, Speaker-designee Jim Tucker has announced. Tucker, R-Algiers, said he is backing state Rep. Karen Carter, D-New Orleans, for speaker pro-tem, the No. 2 leadership slot in the lower chamber, making it a near-certainty that she will win the post. The two sought-after "money" committees,: the budget-writing Appropriations Committee and the tax-writing Ways and Means Committee, go to Rep. Jim Fannin, D-Jonesboro, and Rep. Hunter Greene, R-Baton Rouge, respectively. Tucker made the announcement after weeks of trying to balance committee assignments along regional, racial and party lines, a task made more difficult because there will be 59 freshman members in the 105-member House after many veterans were ushered out of office by term limits.
