Embryo Research Halted! …VICTORY!

Bioethics Defense Fund
August 23, 2010

A federal ruling has struck down the Obama embryonic stem cell (ESC) funding guidelines.  Scientists and attorneys have had the vision to bring this important legal challenge to the immoral policy of using public funds to destroy human embryos.  The court enjoined the Obama embryonic stem cell guidelines on the grounds that they violate an annual budget rider known as the Dickey-Wicker Amendment.

BDF Senior Counsel Dorinda C. Bordlee said, “Human life should never be treated as raw material for science experiments -- and failed experiments at that, since embryonic stem cells have never been used to help even one patient.”  Read the federal court official opinion here.  Read the draft from BDF here.

Visa Take Master Card?

The Heritage Foundation
August 20, 2010

President Barack Obama, in his economic stimulus plan, promised that his legislation would prevent unemployment from going beyond 8 percent.  That rate now stands at 9.5 percent and the Congressional Budget Office is saying that rate will not come down any time soon.  Click here to read a 10-year budget baseline put out by the CBO explaining an anemic growth of the economy and high unemployment as well as a deficit surpassing $1.3 trillion.  This insanity has to stop.

The Heritage Foundation, in their article on August 17th, Solutions for America, recommends the following solutions to get our country back on the right track:  1) Enact Spending Caps, 2) Stop Digging, 3) Rein in Entitlements, 4) Empower States, 5) Empower the Private Sector, 6) Ban Corporate Welfare, 7) Eliminate Pork and Waste, and 8) Bring Federal Pay in Line with the Private Sector.  Click here to see each solution explained in depth.

Eggsploiatation!

Breakpoint
August23, 2010

Women involved in egg donation are being exploited and turned into human commodities.  Genetic material for their own biological children whom they may never have a chance to know is being provided.  Many are being pressured and guilt-tripped into this process.  The eggs that help make the embryos have to come from somewhere!  Most of the women are not being advised of the risks to their own health.

Today in History...

American Minute
August 24, 2010

The world’s first moveable type printing press was invented by Johannes Gutenberg.  With it he printed his masterpiece, the Gutenberg Bible on this day, August 24, 1455.  Bibles were no longer copied by hand or chained to pulpits but were now able to be mass produced.  It was an unfortunate event when his business partner sued him and took his rights.  Gutenberg wrote:  "Let us break the seal which seals up holy things and give wings to Truth in order that she may win every soul that comes into the world."

Victor Hugo, author of The Hunchback of Notre Dame, 1831, said: “Gutenberg's letters of lead and the invention of printing is the greatest event in history.  It is the mother of revolution."  Mark Twain wrote: "I would have liked to visit the birthplace of Gutenberg, but no memorandum of the house has been kept."  On August 12, 1993, at Denver's Regis University, Pope John Paul II gave a Gutenberg Bible to President Bill Clinton.        Read the full article here.

Rombach Finally Exonerated!

LFF Commentary
August 24, 2010

Johnny Rombach, the Legislature's top financial analyst for 16 years, resigned as head of the fiscal office in 2004 amid accusations that he had given himself unauthorized retroactive increases in salary, per diem and car allowances.  Rombach was charged with three ethics violations in 2005.  Last month a panel of three administrative law judges heard the case and on Friday dismissed all three charges.  "I like it," Rombach told The Times-Picayune.  "It took five years, but I like it."  The panel of judges agreed with arguments by Rombach's attorney, Chris Alexander, that the retroactive pay was allowed by the policies in place at the time.  Click the picture above to view the WAFB video.
